Mother Of The Year

So Christina Korbe misses her kids and wants them to be allowed to visit her while she is in prison awaiting trial for the killing of FBI Special Agent Sam Hicks.
Her attorney said she has not been allowed to see her three children since the November 19 morning that she shot and killed Agent Hicks.
Wow, what a coincidence, Agent's Hicks son Noah has not seen his father since that very same morning!

If any of you out there have sympathy, take a minute to listen to these tapes of her recorded phone conversations from prison.

I'm guessing she hasn't received that call from Oprah that she's been waiting for.

Texas, Don't Let The Door Hit You In The Ass... And Some Other Great Lines.

OK I'm going to do this on the fly because it's 85 degrees and sunny in the Burg for the first time since Pete Flaherty was mayor and I don't want to waste the day in my kitchen on the computer. So grammar police, go out find a donut and coffee or something.

If you didn't catch Real Time With Bill Maher this week on HBO, please do so.
Hilarious.
He compares the Republicans to a jilted ex-husband whose wife left him for (gasp) a black guy.
And one of the funnier lines (paraphrased)"The Republican were all up in arms that Obama accepted a book from Chavez, they are just pissed he knows hows to read it."
Funny, funny stuff.Check it out. If you don't get HBO, watch it online here:

Real Time With Bill Maher - 04/24/09 (Season 1 Episode 150) at LocateTV.com

Speaking of good weather and Pittsburgh, How 'bout those Bucco's huh? Could we possibly have our first 500 season in over 15 years.
Just askin'?
Don't want to be a jinx or anything.
My son is the last forever hopeful Bucco fan. He's the only one left who looks forward to baseball season with great hope that THIS will be their year. Year after year, after year.
Yeah, he's young and still oh so hopeful.

In a few weeks the The Anger Management Girls and Carl will be diging out thier "green weenies" (not Carl's)for the second annual Pirate outing. How much fun is THAT going to be? We will behave I'm sure.

I'm outta here.....You can kiss me good-bye! Enjoy your day.

My Life........ Just One Fun Week After Another!!

I guess I better write something because I have been reminded that my posts are getting farther and further apart. (I've used one of each since I don't know if it is further or farther. Could someone help me out on that? Thank you.)

So my father was in the hospital this past week. He came home from the Lake for Easter and I convinced him to see a Dr. on Monday morning. He hasn't been to the Dr. since my mom died 9 years also. Oh yeah, and he also quit taking the cumedin he was on for his mini strokes.
I convinced him to go to Dr. and get the once over. What could it hurt? Right?
Wrong.
Long story short, they admitted him to the hospital. But not after he refused and I had to beg the Dr. to let him go to the Pirate Game first and promised I would drive him straight to the hospital after the game.
Which I did.
He's 85 years old and he can do what he wants goddammit! That was the phrase of the week.
So every day that they kept him, I got yelled at because it was all my fault. I made him go to the Dr. and he was fine and I said he would only be there for a day and it was now going on 6 days, blah, blah, blah.........

When they were admitting him, they ask for his health history. He answered nothing. Nothing at all has ever been wrong with him. According to him, he has always been a picture of health. Always. He neglected to tell them about the strokes, heart cath's, heart attacks, pneumonia, ulcers, hiatal hernia, acid reflux, knee surgery, etc. etc. Yeah, a real picture of health.

Anyway, he is fine now. They got his heart rhythm under control, finally. I think they were successful with that when they got him to stop getting dressed and ready to go home every morning. Or maybe drugs had something to do with it. I don't know.
I told him to look at it this way; he got to read the local death notices for a whole week.

So, last week was a crazy week. Forgive me for being lax in my blogging.

Oh, how about this conversation I overheard while visiting the hospital? There was this white trash woman in the cafeteria one day talking in the Irish Whisper. She was saying she really needs a break and that she is going to call "all her babies daddies" to take the kids for a few days.
Whatthefuck?????? ALL her babies daddies.
Maybe she should have thought about that before she did all her babies daddies!
I must be getting old.

Speaking of babies.........I am sure you all know by now, but how about our newest AMG boy!
Ryan Dean. Can't wait to see him!!! How cute is this.

This babies Daddy AND Mommy are both gorgeous. He has the map of Ireland written all over that face. (OK, maybe a little of Greece too!)
So it goes without saying he will be a heart breaker. Ladies, look out for your daughters in about 20 years!
He looks like an angel. Almost makes you want to have another doesn't it? It doesn't?
OK, maybe I stretched that a little. It doesn't. But I'm sure Erin is up for the task. (Shhhh, she's young, what does she know!) I'm sure all the times I called her crying about my kids, she probably doesn't even remember any of that. I hope.

*Picture at top is of my father and me probably from Murphy's five and 10 (The Fivey)
around 1958.

Dream A Dream

Isn't it a cryin' shame that we are judged mostly by how we look compared to the rest of society?

I'm not a big American Idol fan, but I came across this and it totally blew me away. Apparently it blew away the judges and audience also.
Please take a minute to watch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY
Did it bring goose bumps or tears?
It gave me both. I've listened to it about 10 times.

You know what's sad? This woman has the voice of an angel. She's every bit as good as Elaine Paige, Betty Buckley or Patti Lupone, but no one bothered to get past her looks. Look at the faces in the audience before she started singing. They were getting ready to laugh at her.

I wonder were she would be right now if she actually looked like Elaine Paige? Probably staring in Les Miserables.
I can relate Susan. Really, I can.

Being suddenly single after your youth and body are shot to shit isn't much fun either. It infuriates me when I see men with these young beautiful girls with a personality of a brick wall. I think, geeze, don't they realize what they are missing. Don't they ever want to have a conversation?
Sigh, I guess not. At least not until they outlaw Viagra. It lets these old fools think they can keep up with the young ones, which is a whole other post........

Oh well, here's to all the Susan Boyle's of the world! And lets wish for the day when one sees no difference between her and Elaine Paige. ........... Or me and Audrey Hepburn.
I know, I know. Hey, I'm dreaming a dream OK?

Late Edition: Since I mentioned Viagara. My father is in the hospital. He will be fine. He's almost 85 years old. His heart is acting up.
But yesterday morning while we were in the Dr. office, I spotted this add.

WTF? Medicare covers Viagra? Come on folks. And we wonder why the country is going broke!

When It's NOT A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood

The senseless, cowardly killing of three police officers this past Saturday came way too close to home.
I went up to the Lake to visit my father this past weekend. We were channel surfing when we came upon CNN. Pittsburgh was in the headlines. Four policeman were shot. As we kept watching, I kept thinking that the street looked familiar. When they said the name of the street where the shooting was taking place was 1016 Fairfield I could have fallen off the chair. I asked my father what the address was of my Uncle Pud's brother Donny. 1015 Fairfield. Directly across the street. Then my mind raced. My friend Flo, 1109. A mere five houses away. My friend Beth, 1118. My cousin's sister in law, 1127.
I immediately started calling around to see who I could get in touch with. The first person I reached was Joyce. She lives about 3 blocks away. The gunfire woke her up.
Donny and Joanne, who live across the street at 1015 had the swat van parked on their front lawn. Sharp shooters on their roof and police shooting from their living room. I'm sure it will be a long time before they can get the images of a dead policeman lying in the middle of their street for hours out of their head.
Beth went outside when she heard first shots and saw police running down the street with machine guns telling her to get in her basement. One of the policeman was her cousin Paul who also lives up the street. Then she said all news stations were calling for interviews even before the shots stopped.
Weird.
And poor Flo, she just lost her husband and moved up to Stanton Heights because she thought it was a safer, quiter neighborhood.

I could go on. But you get the picture. Stanton Heights is a short 5-10 minute drive from my Shadyside neighborhood.
You never think that the horror you see nightly on the news would have the faces and the names of the people you know. When it does, it numbs you.

Coming home from the grocery store this evening, I passed the funeral home where Officer Scuillo was. There was a line a block long. He went to the same grade school and high school as my son Danny. As a mother, I could not imagine what his mother must be going through.

I was a Law Enforcement major in college. I did an internship with the county police the summer between my junior and senior year. 1978. We were working on a case and they were finally ready to arrest they guy. It was getting late in the day, but the detectives asked me if I wanted to go with them to find and arrest him. I jumped at the chance.
Long story short, we found the guy we were looking for and by the time we took him in and processed him I didn't get home until 1AM. I was 20 years old and didn't think to call my mother to tell her I would be late. (I know, I know, I'm getting paid back now) This was in 1978. Way before cell phones.
I walked into the house and my mother was completely hysterical. She had rosaries in her hands. I looked at her like she was nuts.
What I didn't know is that on the 6:00 news that evening she heard that there was a standoff with police somewhere and police were shot. Harriet being Harriet, she didn't bother to find out where it was (remember this is also way before 24 hr news and cable)She was convinced it was me. Turns out it was the same night as the MOVE uprising in Philadelphia.
My poor mother. She was sure I was in a gunfight somewhere with a bunch of lunatics.
I can only imagine the horror she would have felt if I was.
No mother should have to go through that.
God Bless Officers Sciullo, Kelly, Mayhle and their families. Esp. their mothers.
And I hope the punk who did this rots right along with his mother. She's as crazy as he is.
The next time you hear someone complain about the police, ask them if they ever put their life on the line just by seeing if a co-worker needed extra help on their way home.

*Weird coincidence. A few years later, while working at the FBI I did work on that MOVE case.

My Two Cents

Just watching news coverage on Obama's London trip.
My Two Cents or three or four:
This is a lovely picture of the Obama's and the Queen. But I'm sorry folks, she looks so old and so......white.
And don't they have a little box with the Queen's Seal on it for her to stand on for God's sake?
I feel like someone should be singing that song from Sesame Street, "One of these things doesn't belong here, One of these things is not the same.........

What about the anarchists..........I'm sorry, but what a bunch of jerks. (See Erin, I didn't change my views THAT much! Remnants of that ol' right wing me are in there somewhere)
Do ya see something wrong with the picture below? Photographers from around the world are TAKING THIS JERKS PICTURE as he purposely breaks through a plate glass window. Yeah, lets all stand here and watch and do nothing. Take off you mask big boy!
Mummy and Daddy should have to pay. I doubt if this jerk has a job.
Funny thing, these big rebels against just about everything left the protest and went to the Starbucks that was open right around the corner.
Yeah, fuck the big business and all that, I guess you all told them!
Get a job, get a haircut and most of all GET A BATH!!!!

What you didn't see in London today? People burning images of Obama and burning the American flags. Interesting.

Then there's the meeting with Medvedev in which according the the Washington Post, they "produced a joint statement pledging cooperation on issues including Afghanistan, Iran's nuclear program, nuclear proliferation and reviving the global economy."

Obama also met briefly with China's President Hu Jintao. According to Fox, yes Fox The White House said Obama and Hu agreed to "intensify coordination and cooperation on global economic and financial issues." As economic leaders, the United States and China say they want to work together to address the economic crisis.

What was it that Cheney called Obama? Naive or something? Yes asshole,I guess you can actually talk to people.
For the first time in a long time an American President can go abroad without thousands of protesters thinking he is the devil straight from hell.

One more thing, how about the whole Ted Stevens thing? Oh, sorry Senator Stevens,we didn't mean it. Just disregard all those charges from that previous administration. Just enjoy your retirement, Kay?
Sort of a breath of fresh air that a Justice Department actually wants justice. Even if it means embarrassing their own department.

OK, sorry. I didn't mean for this to be this long. I didn't even get to go into my rant on CBS canceling Guiding Light! I'll save that for another day.
Promise.

Gawd, can't believe I quoted Fox!
