Oh Danny Boy

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

But come you back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'tis I'll be there in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

Dan D'Amico, the self proclaimed "Prince of Ireland".
06/14/53 - 03/14/03

Happy St. Patrick's Day
*For those of you who are a little confused, Dan was born Daniel Sweeney. He was adopted by a wonderful Italian man named John D'Amico who raised him no differently than his other five children. So I have 100% Irish kids with the last name of D'Amico. Funny huh?

Irene,
I can't believe it has been SIX years since Dan left us. In some respects it seems like last week; in others, it has been a millenium.

You know I always enjoyed his company. We'd chat it up about the Civil War; discuss the finer historical features of Allegheny Cemetery; and Ireland, what else.

Rest assured he is having fun with my dad, Morgan, challenging villagers to trivia at Gus O'Connors and tapping thier toes to traditional Irish music in the village of Doolin because anything less is for sissies.

If we are lucky, really fortunate, we'll join them when the time is right and they'll have everything all lined up, the coffee brewing and the beer a chillin'.

Hi Eileen,

I don't know what to say actually but I wanted to leave a heartfelt sentiment...consider it left! You were blessed to have him in your life at all.
